How we met

We both attended the University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication, with many things in common. We share the same 48-hour birthday: April 22 /23. We were both from states that didn’t observe Daylight Saving Time. We both wanted to work in advertising. On the last day of our third year, we exchanged numbers so we could “hang out next year.” (Refer to photo for proof who initiated.) We spent the next year “sort of” seeing each other, which meant we spent almost every day together.

After graduation, there was a brief long-distance stint between coasts. Then, depending on who you ask, one of us moved to New York City. Some say for love, some say for work, but I guess, it’s all the same romantic notions. Ten years, two apartments, many dinner parties, and one Rich later, we’re still in Brooklyn.

The Proposal

I always imagined being married to be a celebration of regular moments together. Not always honeymoons and children, but sitting around at home on a Thursday night trying to figure out our dinner plans.

So we got engaged at home on a Thursday night in July with no dinner plans. The ring, which was hidden in our couch cushions for weeks is a combination of Chel’s Grandma’s ring and my Nana’s.
